At Logan, safety is our highest priority; this starts with building a culture of safety and encompasses more than just physical security. True safety begins with nurturing our students' mental health and social-emotional well-being. At the beginning of the year, our teachers are intentional about building community through trips, classroom agreements, and class activities that generate a sense of belonging. This holistic approach serves as the foundation—like a big umbrella—covering all of our safety practices. When students feel emotionally supported and cared for, they are better equipped to thrive, which in turn enhances the effectiveness of our physical safety measures like fire drills and other protocols.
To continue to build understanding and practice safety with students, we will soon begin our yearly safety drills:
- Monthly fire drills
- The week of Sept. 16th: Campus evacuation
- Twice-yearly tornado drills: Fall (Sept. 20) and Spring (Date TBD)
- Twice-yearly Lockdown drills: Sept. 30th (2–2:45 pm); other date TBD
